Letters to Our Children – July

Some friends and I are writing letters to our children in a monthly blog circle! After you read mine, click here to check out my friend Rebekah’s letter next. If you click through each letter, you’ll eventually find yourself right back here!

dear wesley,

I can’t believe that you’re about to turn 2 years old! Where has the time gone? I feel like my time with you has gone so much faster than it did with Emily. You’ve grown so much in the last 2 years: physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s really amazing when you think about it! Only a year ago you weren’t able to walk and now you run all over the place in your goofy little gait that makes everyone smile when they see you.

You have challenged your dad and me much more than Emily did! This next year is going to be a tough one. Even though your stubborn personality can be frustrating at times (which is putting it lightly since you got your stubbornness from me!), I love that you can’t be swayed from what you think is the right way. You are determined and true to yourself. It’s amazing to see these traits starting to show themselves already.

One thing that we’ve all come to love about you is your ability to make a mess out of anything. Strange, but true! Which is why we call you “Wes the Mess” or “Messy Wesley”! I mean, really! Who makes a complete mess out of Cheerios?! All over the rug, smashed, full of saliva and smushed into your clothes, somehow you manage it all. And that’s something that should be relatively mess-free. All bets are off if it’s something that is messy to begin with!

We’ve been taking a music class (Makin’ Music – totally recommend these classes for toddlers!!) for the past 6 weeks and Daddy and I crack up every time we watch you dance, sing and yell to your heart’s content! You have such a fun time! I hope that you will always approach new (and old) activities with the same enthusiasm and joy as you do music class!

You love your big sister so much and look up to her every day! Even though you’re starting to get on her nerves at times (as all little brothers do), she loves you right back! One of my favorite moments of any given day is when the two of you are playing together and you end up wrestling and hugging and cracking each other up. And of course, my other favorite moment is when you grab my face in between your little hands and pull me in for a kiss! It makes my heart melt! I hope you will always be so sweet and kind!

I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for you!! (or should that be the other way around?)

Love always,

  • Kari - Such a cutie! I feel so much empathy reading your letter as our almost 2-year-old (second child) is much more challenging than our first, too. Glad I’m not alone. I can’t wait to see how they grow into their own separate little people. Thanks for the wonderful letter, reminder, and beautiful photos!ReplyCancel
